I forgot to say that another highlight for me (truly, this time!) was
seeing my daughter and her new friend head off together to learn to make
hand-dipped candles (scented with honey!), and then again later the same
day to learn to make a simple cheese (heat milk, add rennet, hang, come
back 6 hours later, add savory or sweet, serve with crackers). They were
VERY proud of their projects, and happily shared their fresh cheeses
(one with green onion, the other with honey) with everyone in our
encampment as hors d'oeuvres.

It's always a delight seeing children take pride in their work--and
these two certainly did!

P.S. I swear next year I won't leave a partial bottle of mead sitting
alone, unattended, overnight. It was the smoke, I think... ::hopeful::
