Be thee all hale;
A voice from the past here ,-)
What Walmart and the other big box stores are trending towards is
"flex-scheduling" all of their employees. Labor hours will be spent
according to the computer models of what peak selling hours are during
the course of any business week. Having wage slaves tied to a
particular department, waiting to provide low margin services will
become a thing of the past.
A Walmart employee (and others as the trend spreads) will no longer
have either an assured schedule or paycheck as this is implemented.
The big boxes (including the one for which I work) care only for how
much "margin" they can squeeze out of every sales dollar. They pay
lip service to the rest of it, keeping up the services so long as they
serve the Idol of Profit.
Other than that, I like hitting the remnant area of the fabric chain
stores, plus the end of season markdowns (woolens in late spring,
cottons in late fall...) I'll take JoAnne's. Hanson's, Northwest and
so forth over the evil empire any day.
On an other note I've been a stranger the past long while. Illnesses
and job changes have conspired to suck the life out of much of my free
time.
I do read the messages and am glad that the Shire is (at least to my
eyes) thriving.
I'm not ready to become very active again, but do look forward to
doing some armoring as summer gets here.
My best wishes for good health and increased prosperity to one and all
In friendship and fond regards
Lord Alasdair Morgan Gunn - AoA

Vert, a catamount sejant guardant or,
on a chief indented of three points argent,
two mullets of eight points, sable.
