[Great Hall of Rockwall] Rummage Sale

A question for the Hall:

A coworker and I were comparing e-bay adventures this morning. He mentioned
that he had a box of stuff that he wanted to get rid of, but didn't think he
could sell any of it for a price that would make up for the payout in ebay
fees and his time. I said that I had a similar box, but I was planning to
just give it to the Shire's summer rummage sale. He asked if that would
result in a tax deduction for me next year. I said probably not, since
technically it is a gift to a group I'm a member of.

But what if the giver is not a member of the SCA? Since we're technically a
non-profit educational group, would a donation of items by someone who
doesn't attend events be tax-deductible, similar to a donation of stuff to
the Salvation Army?

If so, I've got some friends and family I might be able to talk into giving
us stuff for the sale.
