PLEASE cross post to any list that you feel might be
helpfull in finding the people responsable and having
them arrested, in getting the armor back.

Unfortunately, the fighter has not posted any photos of the missing armor. General rule: when buying armor (or for that matter anything) from sources like ebay, be sure to ask lots of questions about the history of the armor--who made it, how old it is, how many years it has been in use, how many separate fighters have worn it, etc. And ask for contact information for the maker so you can check it out. If the answers don't pass the smell test, don't bid.
